Ready, set, go! Preparations begin for Lincoln Santa Fun Run

Santas galore: Preparations for this year’s Santa Fun Run are now underway, with a few extra surprises.

The 2013 Danwood Lincoln Santa Fun Run and Walk promises to be the biggest yet, with organisers expecting a record 2,000 Santas to run or walk the route through Bailgate.

The runners will set off at 11.30am on December 15 from Lincoln Castle, a new addition to the course.

After completing two laps, runners will finish back at the Castle to be awarded their medals.

The popular fundraiser aims to help out charities in Lincolnshire. This year, the official event charities are the Alzheimer’s Society, British Heart Foundation (Lincoln), Candles, Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, Samaritans (Lincoln), St Barnabas Hospice Lincolnshire and the local Rotary Charities.

The run is all-inclusive with walkers, pushchairs and dogs on leads welcome to take part.

Spectators enjoy watching Santas of all ages making their way across Lincoln’s most celebrated landmarks.

In 2012, the Santa Run raised over £63k for local charities. This year, organisers are certain that Lincoln’s Santas can raise even more.

Race Director Chris Illsley said: “This year we have set everyone taking part the challenge to see if they can raise £20.13 in sponsorship money.

“If everyone can raise this relatively small amount, we will hit our fundraising target and make a wonderful difference to these very important local charities.”

Entry fees have been frozen at £10 for adults and £5 for children under 5. Everyone taking part in the race will receive their very own Santa suit to keep free of charge.
