My Space gallery chosen for The Collection

Pick and mix: Artistically gifted youngsters select out of thousands of artworks which ones will grace the My Space gallery at The Collection.

The Collection in Lincoln will exhibit from May 24th to July 16th the My Space gallery, which was hand-picked by community groups out of works from the venue’s permanent collection.

The theme of the exhibition relies on art and natural history, exploring man’s enduring love of nature. The works in My Space were chosen by students from Ash Villa Hospital School and a group of artistically gifted youngsters, from 3,400 artworks in the gallery’s permanent stores.

“This exhibition will be really special and is likely to include works never shown before. Some of our collection is kept in preservation and some pieces are just waiting for their turn to be displayed,” said Theresa Workman, Community Engagement Officer at the County Council.

“The much-loved natural history collection has been in storage for many years since it was on display at the old City and County Museum at Greyfriars,” Workman added.

Alongside My Space, the two groups who selected the pieces for the collection will also display their own artwork in response to the project. Their tutors were Ann Walker, James Sutton, Diana Rawson, Pete Moss and Alan Parker.
