Car share scheme to save commuters cash

Liftshare: A scheme promoted in Lincoln can help commuters to the city save up to £500 per year.

The second Liftshare Week will be promoted in Lincoln from October 4 to 8, a scheme which could save commuters cash over the year.

Lincoln BIG says its scheme has already helped users to share over 200 journeys, with total cost savings estimated at more £26,500.

The Liftshare scheme is also claimed to have saved 38.4 tonnes of carbon, as one of its aims is to help the environment as well.

There are over 250 sharers registered and looking for lifts to and from work in the Liftshare scheme in and around Lincoln.

Typically someone travelling 10 miles a day and paying for parking could save over £500 a year by sharing (£636 for parking £450 for fuel).

“It’s so easy to get involved,” said Lincoln BIG’s events manager Michael Armstrong, who is also a user of the Liftshare scheme.

“All people have to do is go online and register their own travel details at www.lincolnbigcarshare.co.uk.

“This will allow them to make contact with other people using the same route as them to get to work.

“In some cases, this move could result in four people riding to Lincoln in one car, rather than in four separate vehicles.

“The Lincoln BIG Carshare Scheme includes a great Get Home from Work Quick! feature, which is backed by Handsome Cabs in Lincoln.

“This provides a solution for people using liftshare who may be left with a problem if their driver has had to go home early that day to deal with an emergency.”
