Matron awarded for new leadership skills

Outstanding: The matron at Lincoln hospital’s maternity ward has been awarded for her leadership study.

The maternity matron at Lincoln County Hospital has earned an award for her contribution to a regional leadership course for midwives.

The Leading Midwifery course, run by NHS East Midlands Leadership Academy, aimed to develop dynamic leaders to take the development of maternity services forward.

Deirdre Fowler (pictured centre) undertook the programme, running from May 2010 to January 2011.

She said: “The leadership course was a stimulating and hugely rewarding experience.

“It has also enabled me to make a large number of valuable contacts across different areas of expertise in maternity care across East Midlands.

“It is a privilege and an honour to receive this award and to be recognised for outstanding contribution to the programme.

“I wish to dedicate the award to my peers and all of the staff working in the maternity unit at Lincoln County Hospital, for their unfailing support and for being an absolute pleasure to work with.

“I look forward to sharing my newfound knowledge and skills with my colleagues.”

Head of Midwifery at United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust Hazel Harrison, said: “We are all proud of Deirdre for achieving this award.

“She deserves it for the dedication she has shown to furthering her professional development, which in turn will impact on the overall provision of maternity services at Lincoln County Hospital.”
