Police warn of warm weather burglaries

Warm: Police warn sneak-in burglaries increase when the weather gets warmer and people spend more time outdoor.

Lincolnshire Police are urging residents in the Lincoln and North Hykeham area to lock their doors while they are out, after a spike in sneak-in burglaries.

The force says sneak-in burglaries increase when the weather gets warmer and people spend more time outside or in their gardens.

Police warn that thieves prowl residential areas looking for opportunities where people have left windows and doors open while they are outside in the sunshine.

The thieves can be very quick to get into someone’s house and steal something, as people are out enjoying the recent warmer weather.

An example of a warm weather sneak-in burglary took place at the weekend in North Hykeham at a property in Cotswold Close.

The occupants were in the back garden, when a thief sneaked in through an unlocked back door and stole a laptop and a purse containing £50 and bank cards.

Police are urging residents to be vigilant when they are in their gardens and if possible, to make sure doors are locked.
