Lincoln schools fork out for agency staff

Supply cash: Lincoln schools paid out over £375,000 for agency workers over the past year.

City primary and secondary schools paid out over £375,000 for agency workers in 2010/11, according to the latest data released by Lincolnshire County Council.

This is £70,000 lower than city schools spent on supply teachers alone in the previous year.

The biggest spender on agency staff, which includes supply teachers and cleaners, is Lincoln Christ’s Hospital School, with £84,986. The lowest is Bracebridge Heath St John’s Primary School at £300.

However, the biggest spender on average per pupil is Witham St Hugh’s Primary School, at £145 per pupil for the year. The lowest on average is again Bracebridge Heath St John’s, at just £1 per pupil.

Not every primary and secondary school in Lincoln is included in the data provided by Lincolnshire County Council.

Academies, like Lincoln Castle Academy (formerly Yarborough School) do not provide information to the County Council and operate outside of the local authority’s control.
