City firm wins multi-million MOD contract

Military contract: A Lincoln technical support company has won an MOD contract worth millions of pounds.

Lincoln-based technical support company Mass has been awarded a multi-million pound contract by the Ministry of Defence for the delivery of Project Shepherd.

Mass and SRC Inc. (formerly Syracuse Research Corporation) are part of the Logica consortium, a leading business and technology service company.

Mass opened its Lincoln facility in 2005 and it has now become the centre for a growing Electronic Warfare Support capability.

The new contract, Project Shepherd, will create a total of 50 new jobs in the company, with over half of those in their Lincoln offices on Tritton Road.

Project Shepherd is an electronic warfare database which helps defend military fighters and naval boats. The new technology is exportable and will be used in a new state-of-the-art American fighter jet.

Ashley Lane, Managing Director of Mass said: The Shepherd programme will deliver a world-leading capability to the DEWC (Defence Electronic Warfare Centre), thus ensuring our front line forces will have the latest and most up to date electronic warfare protection in theatre.

“I am really proud that at the heart of the solution will be UK technology in the form of our Thurbon EW Data Management System.”

Steve Smart, Managing Director of Logica Space and Defence, said: “This contract win is testament to our ability to deliver substantial improvements in supporting our defence forces on operations.

“Project Shepherd has potential for wider exploitation, both within the UK and with our important defence allies and we look forward to working with the MOD on these initiatives.”
