City church robbed of 400yr-old silverware

Robbed church: Silverware from the 16th century was stolen from a St Mary’s Church in St Mary’s Street, Lincoln.

Lincolnshire Police are appealing for information after 400-year-old silver was stolen from a city church.

It is believed this incident took place some time over the last 10 days at St Mary’s Church in St Mary’s Street, Lincoln.

Police say an offender broke into the church, possibly through a door at the back and stole two 16th century chalices and smaller silverware items from the safe.

The pictures above are of silverware from another church, which is similar to the stolen items.

Anyone who has seen any suspicious activity in the area of the church, or has any information on the whereabouts of the silver is asked to contact Lincolnshire Police.
