Motorcyclist dies in Canwick Road crash

Updated: A man has died following a traffic collision in the south of the city today.

A local man has died following a crash on Canwick Road on September 29.

Police were called to Canwick Road at the Washingborough Road junction at around 2.10pm, after receiving reports of a collision between a blue Suzuki motorbike and grey Ford Focus.

The rider of the motorbike, whose name is not yet known, was taken to Lincoln County Hospital with serious injuries, but died shortly after.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call on 0300 111 0300, quoting incident 239 of 29 September 2011.

The deceased is a 51-year-old man from the Branston area. There are some delays in releasing the name while family members are informed.

A 52-year-old local woman was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She was released on bail pending further enquiries on January 5, 2012.

Canwick Road, at the junction with Washingborough Road, will be closed for around 15 minutes at around 2pm today for further road traffic investigations to be carried out.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area at that time.

Police have named the deceased as John Baxter, 51, of Shardloes, Branston.
