New basketball sessions start in Lincoln

New sessions: Under 25s interested in playing basketball can now take part in a new coaching session in North Hykeham.

Young people in Lincoln are being invited to join in with a new basketball session this month featuring a specialist coach.

Anyone aged between 14 and 25 can take part in the sports session on October 10, at North Kesteven Leisure Centre from 5pm.

The sessions are led by a Lincoln Stars Basketball team member, who is also a Level 2 England Basketball Coach and National League player.

Sessions will run for 6 weeks every Monday evening, and was funded due to Lincolnshire Basketball receiving £742 from Sportivate to develop basketball in the county.

Basketball Development Officer at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership Lucy Willets said: “There are currently no basketball opportunities in North Hykeham so these sessions provide young people with an opportunity to take part and play basketball outside of school.

“We would like to develop a new club to compete in the local basketball league, but all levels and abilities are welcome.”

Children and Young People’s Officer Lucy Blakey said: “We are delighted to have awarded Lincolnshire Basketball this funding to further develop basketball in the area.

“The Sportivate sessions […] provides a huge opportunity for children and young people to get involved in sport in the area.”
