Victorian street signs up for face lift

Street signage: New funding will allow Lincoln BIG to revamp the old Victorian cast-iron street signs in the city centre.

Damaged Victorian cast-iron street name signs in Lincoln city centre will be refurbished, thanks to new funding.

Lincoln BIG has been awarded £2,500 from the Lincolnshire Co-operative BIG Birthday Awards scheme.

This will be combined with a further £2,500 from the European Regional Development Fund.

Mick Lake, Lincoln BIG Operations Manager, said: “We are delighted to accept this funding.

“Street name signs are very important to help people find their way around our city, but some of them have become quite difficult to read.

“The historic signs are also important for the way in which they contribute to the character of the area.

“This project will ensure that the signs are preserved for the future and will make them more legible for visitors and tourists.”
