— Updated with roads reopening and object origin

A bomb disposal unit recovered what turned out to be a piece of scrap metal at a roadworks site on the A46 in Lincoln.

Police were contacted at about 3.10pm, when construction staff working on the widening of the A46 discovered an unexplained object.

Workers left the object in place and police attended and cordoned off the area around it as a precautionary measure, as the bomb disposal unit was called.

Both north and southbound carriageways of the A46 near the Doddington Road roundabout were closed up until 5.50pm, causing traffic queues in the area.
