Carholme Road Co-op opening hours extended

Winning Post: The Carholme Road Co-op foodstore and petrol station will try out extended opening hours.

Residents in the West End of Lincoln will now be able to shop for longer from the Winning Post Lincolnshire Co-operative and petrol station on Carholme Road.

The City of Lincoln Council’s granted the Winning Post Co-operative service station permission to extend their opening hours from 10pm to midnight instead.

They will also be able to open an hour earlier, at 6am instead of 7am.

The Co-op had originally been stuck with 10pm closing times due a previous opening time application in 1992, in order to “protect the amenity of surrounding residents”.

There were some objections to the application due to the possibility of noise pollution, but given the space between the store and the nearest residential properties, the objections were overlooked.

An officer visiting the site also pointed out that noise would not be caused directly by the change in opening hours, but more by the nature of the store as a petrol station.

Spokesman for Lincolnshire Co-op Emma Snedden said: “Carholme Road is a busy main road into the city.

“We’ve identified a demand for longer opening hours from both those customers who call in to fill up with petrol and also, local people who use Winning Post as a convenience store for top-up shopping.”

Initially, the Co-op will only extend it’s morning opening times, and then wait until March next year before staying open until 11pm. This gives the Co-operative brand flexibility to alter the hours.
