Lincoln train station gets smart ticket scheme

Smarter tickets: A new scheme will make buying and carrying tickets around much easier.

As part of East Midlands Trains’ fourth birthday celebrations, Lincoln Central Station will be taking part in a new smartcard scheme.

A smartcard is a plastic electronic card, which passengers can store all their travel information on instead of carrying around paper tickets.

The card, which has been named the StagecoachSmart scheme can hold various types of tickets, including season passes.

In 25 of East Midlands Trains’ stations, card readers have been installed and user trials are currently underway.

The company’s new Managing Director David Horne said: “We’re extremely pleased to be celebrating our fourth birthday with four more great improvements for passengers.

“Over the last four years, we’ve worked very hard to ensure our passengers benefit from some significant changes to our trains and stations, and we are continuing to invest to make further improvements.”

According to East Midlands Trains, passengers will be able to get the card “very soon”.
