Lincoln in top UK gadget cities, study finds

Gadget city: Lincoln ranked in the top 10 cities in a survey looking at how much people spend on their gadgets per year.

Tech-savvy people in Lincoln spend on average almost £1,300 per year on new gadgets, placing the city in the top 10 gadget cities in the UK.

The figures come from a poll of more than 1,100 respondents carried out by Explori.com on behalf of The Gadget Show Live.

The study found that the average amount a person spends on gadgets in the UK is £994 per year, and Lincoln easily topped the average at £1,283.

The city is on the seventh spot, behind Newport (£1,291), Exeter (£1,326), Wolverhampton (£1,356), Stoke-on-Trent (£1,480) and Bath (£1,586).

Canterbury is leading the poll results with an average annual spend of £1,916, almost double the UK average, while Chester (£1,269), Edinburgh (£1,253) and Liverpool (£1,201) were at the bottom of the top 10.

The study also shows that, above all, the biggest spending region for gadgets in the UK is the Midlands with five cities in the top 20, followed by London.

According to Sally Bent, Marketing Manager for The Gadget Show Live, people’s passion for gadgetry is, if anything, on the increase:

“The figures don’t surprise me. The standard of must-have technology is increasing all the time as is amount of exciting products on offer.”
