Police find stolen phone with GPS tracking app

Pinpoint: Police urging smartphone owners to buy GPS tracker apps after a successful theft arrest in the city.

Police recovered a stolen phone and arrested a 20-year-old local man with the help of a GPS tracking app for smartphones.

A 19-year-old local man contacted police reporting his phone had been stolen in Home night club in Park Street in the early hours of Monday.

He used GPS tracking to follow his phone to an address in the West End of the city.

Officers used this information to pinpoint a particular house and obtained a warrant from magistrates on the back of this.

When police attended the address, they recovered the phone and arrested a 20-year-old local man.

He later accepted a police caution in relation to the matter and the phone was returned to its owner.

Following this incident, police are urging smartphone owners to buy GPS tracker apps, as they could be a useful tool for helping to get your property back.
