Rolling Lincoln 10K road closures to minimise disruptions

Road closures: The road closures and traffic restrictions will be managed differently for the 2012 Lincoln 10K race.

The City of Lincoln Council is implementing a different system of road closures for the Great Lincoln Sporting Weekend and the Lincoln 10K on Sunday.

The new rolling programme will be in place between 4pm on Friday, March 23, and 4pm on Sunday, March 25, when traffic restrictions and road closures will be in place at any time necessary.

Keith Taylor, Senior Sport Development Officer at the City Council, said the new system would make the road closures less inconvenient for residents in the area.

“We have agreed a rolling programme to reopen the roads and will allow access as soon as it is safe to do so. This could mean some roads will reopen as early as 9.30am on Saturday and 11.30am on Sunday.

“We know and appreciate that the road closures may cause some inconvenience to local residents and businesses, and thank them for their support,” he added.

Road closures will be enforced from 8.30am to 10am on Saturday, March 24 and from 10am to 1.30pm on Sunday, March 25 (approximate times).

It is hoped that all roads will be fully reopened by 1.30pm on Sunday.

Traffic signs will be displayed when restrictions are in operation and traffic control will be provided by nominated contractors on behalf of the event organisers.

Vehicle owners should make sure their vehicle is not parked on roads on the race route until roads are reopened.
