The Burton Road Fish and Chips has received an award for ‘Best Quality’ from the National Federation of Fish Friers Fish and Chip Quality Award scheme.

The scheme, which forms part of the NFFF’s campaign to promote a British institution in other countries (including North America and East Asia), is aimed at raising the standard and healthiness of UK fish and chips.

Burtons Road Fish and Chips Owner Des Anastasiou hopes the award would help to attract new customers to his shop and that the competitive aspect of the NFFF’s decision would help to “keep us on our toes”.

Des said: “There is a certain criteria which you have to meet, there’s a lot of emphasis on cleanliness and, of course, the quality of the food.”

The Burton Road chippy also won an award earlier this year for its thick cut Lincolnshire sourced Maris Piper potato chips.
