Bid to promote Lincoln as conference city

Conference Lincoln: Businesses and hotels agree to meet monthly to push Lincoln as a conference destination.

Businesses in Lincoln have teamed up to promote the city as the UK’s favourite conference destination.

Representatives from The Lincoln Hotel, DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln, the Lincolnshire Events Centre, The Showroom, Lincoln BIG, Bishop Grosseteste and the University of Lincoln agreed to hold talks on a monthly basis to discuss ways of marketing the city to corporate employers.

The Meet Lincoln steering group will offer incentives to potential agency partners in order to put Lincoln on a similar footing with other major UK cities.

Nicola Shepheard, Marketing Manager at DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln, said: “For a long time Lincoln has been overlooked by organisers, despite having some fantastic venues such as the Lincolnshire Events Centre which hosts the annual Lincolnshire Show, attracting around 65,000 people over two days.”

“There are plenty of incentive experiences; including luxury spa breaks, adrenaline-fuelled activities, cultural experiences and fine dining.”

“Following the opening of the DoubleTree by Hilton on Brayford Wharf North in December 2011, the city’s offering has been further improved; putting it on a par with the likes of Nottingham, Leicester and Sheffield, and we want to ensure that Lincoln gains the recognition it deserves.”

The new business co-operative was established by partners from Visit Lincoln, Lincoln BIG and DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln.

Emma Tatlow, the Visit Lincoln Partnership Manager, said: “Lincoln has historically under-performed in the area of conference and business tourism but we hope that the growth of the city’s two universities and the arrival of an internationally recognised hotel brand will encourage event planners to seriously consider holding their event here.”

“Whether you’re looking for somewhere small and friendly or with the capacity and infrastructure to host a large-scale event, Lincoln is an ideal conference destination.”
