St Swithin’s church fundraises with concerts

Fundraiser: A city church is raising money for restoration by hosting a summer concert series.

Saint Swithin’s Church in Lincoln opened its doors for the first of four summer concerts on July 12.

The events aim to raise money for restoration work needed on the church, situated behind the Waterside Shopping Centre, and make the building a hub for the community.

Local singer Helen Vincent was the star of the first show, but a range of musicians will be featured in upcoming events.

Historic Churches Support Officer Becky Burrows said around £40,000 is needed to complete the project.

The majority of the proceeds will go towards fixing the roof.

Ben Stoker, Lincolnshire Open Churches Officer, said: “It’s more about opening the church up to the community and putting on events that people can enjoy.”

A volunteer-run welcome team will also be set up. Members will be given training and help greet patrons.

Entry to each concert, which start at 1.10pm, will be by voluntary donations and refreshments are available to visitors.
