RAF Waddington’s 8th Squadron now has a new Officer Commanding (OC), after the previous officer accepted a role in London.

Wing Commander Jim Beldon (MBE, MA, BSc, RAF) took over from Wing Commander Paul Moss on October 4, who is now at the Operations Directorate at the Ministry of Defence.

Beldon has already worked with RAF Waddington in his career, having served on the E-3D Sentry several times.

In 2006 he served as a Flight Commander with 23 Squadron, and undertook numerous operations with the Squadron.

He said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to command this great Squadron, which feels like a real homecoming, as I first served on 8 Squadron as a first-tourist navigator in the late 1990’s.

“It is a huge honour to return as 8 Squadron’s commanding officer.”

Jim Beldon lives near Newark, where he is a life member of the Newark Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association.

In his spare time he enjoys long-distance running, and studies air power and military and strategic history.
