Professional skaters to mark Lincoln Ice Rink return

After a year break: Professional figure skaters and coaches Kelly Hemingway and Neil Chilcott will mark the return of of the Lincoln Ice Rink.

Professional figure skaters and coaches Kelly Hemingway and Neil Chilcott will mark the return of the Lincoln Ice Rink on December 1 at 10am.

The Rink is making a comeback to the city after a one year break. It will remain open for public skating sessions everyday, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day, right through until December 30.

In addition to the opening performance by Kelly and Neil (pictured on the Rink in 2010), people will be able watch skaters Rose Happer and Eleanor Hayes, who will be fresh from performing at the British Championships a week earlier.

Ice dancers, sisters Emma and Katie Goring, who also compete a national level, promise to entertain the crowds.

Kelly said: “We are really excited about the return of the rink. It is really popular and we are delighted to see it making a comeback. It would be good if Lincoln could have its own rink because it is a really popular sport, which has been helped by programmes like Dancing on Ice.”

More than 2,000 school pupils have already been booked in for skating sessions.

Lincoln Events and Promotions Manager Michael Armstrong said: “A lot of people were disappointed when we decided – on cost grounds alone – that we could not justify bringing the ice rink to the city last year.

“But we are thrilled to say that we have made it one of our essential attractions for Christmas 2012 and, judging how quickly school parties have been eager to book sessions, it already looks like we’ve made the right decision.

Ice skating sessions start on the hour and last for 45 minutes. Weekday ticket prices range from £4.50 for a child/concession to £6.50 for an adult. Weekend prices cost from £5.50 to £7.50 per per person.
