Ladies football captain for England and Team GB 2012 Casey Stoney officially opened new community sports facilities at The Priory City of Lincoln Academy.

The Lincoln Ladies footballer and Olympic star officially opened the site’s refitted swimming pool, costing £250,000.

She also visited new changing rooms for outdoor sports and changing rooms for swimming pool users, plus general upgrades to the sports facility built in 1974.

The new builds cost £590,000, £440,000 of which came from the Priory Federation of Academies, and £150,000 Sport England’s Inspired Facilities award.

There are 37 external clubs, groups and organisations using the Academy sports facilities.

Priory City of Lincoln Academy Director of Sport Russell Fenton said: “Many pupils, groups, schools and clubs are already enjoying the benefit of these superb facilities.

“The project has increased sustainable participation by making our facilities more modern and accessible to the whole community. Overall, it has created a better sporting experience while reducing running costs.”
