World record attempt: Students from Lincoln College are competing in a football match this week in a bid to beat the world record for the longest 5-a-side football match.

Students from Lincoln College are competing for 50 hours in a football match this week in a bid to beat a world record.

— Update on June 11: The football team had to stop the record attempt late on Monday due to some health-related issues.

Sixteen students from the college will attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest 5-a-side football match, with the current record standing at 42 hours.

The challenge started at 10am, Monday, July 10, and will last until 12pm, on Wednesday, June 13.

They will play day and night supervised by their tutors, and the game will be recorded according to Guinness World Record regulations.

Josh Booth, Chairman of Lincoln College Team, said: “It will be a very special sport event for us as participants, for the college and for the whole of Lincolnshire.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to appear in the Guinness World Records book, so we’ll do our best not to miss our chance,” he added.

The Lincolnite will update on their progress throughout the week.
