Man dies in A46 crash

Fatal crash: A man has died in a crash on the A46 between Lincoln and Newark after he lost control of the car and crashed into a lamp post.

A man has died in a crash on the A46 between Newark and Lincoln.

Police were called to the incident at around 9.38am on Monday, October 28 on the A46 northbound, between Winthorpe and the Thorpe on the Hill junction, close to the Lincolnshire border.

It is believed the driver lost control of the Vauxhall Astra on the wet road and crashed into a lamp post, then his car caught fire.

Fire and Rescue attended along with an ambulance, but the male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.


Later update: The man has been named as Norman Milburn (59) from Sheffield.


The road was closed towards Lincoln while Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire Police carried out investigations. The road reopened at about 3pm.
