Lincoln Christmas Market — Weekend roundup

Great atmosphere: The Christmas Market attracted thousands of people to uphill Lincoln over the weekend, with a busy final day.

The Lincoln Christmas Market attracted thousands of people to the city over the weekend, with a busy Sunday as the final day.

Visitors had more than 250 traditional and contemporary stalls to browse, offering festive shopping, food, drinks and entertainment in the Castle and Cathedral areas alongside local businesses.

The market was affected by strong winds on Thursday, when the Castle was closed for the first five hours of the event for safety reasons.

Upon returning from their tour in the Middle East, the Red Arrows treated visitors at the market to a flypast on Friday afternoon.

But on Friday evening, a power cut in the city also meant uphill Lincoln was plunged into darkness for a short while. Some visitors were trapped in the big wheel and staff moved the wheel manually to free them safely.

Initial reports indicate there were no major incidents on Saturday and Sunday, when attendance numbers were higher.

Organisers are collating how many people attended the market from December 5 to 8, and are set to release the numbers in the coming week.
