Lincolnshire counsellors send Christmas gifts to Afghanistan

Bringing Christmas to Afghanistan: Staff and trustees at Lincoln-based Relate Lincolnshire have been filling shoeboxes with gifts for soldiers posted abroad this season.

This Christmas, RAF counsellors ‘Relate Lincolnshire’ are preparing to make a special gift delivery to personnel serving in Afghanistan.

Staff and trustees from the national counselling charity have been filling shoe boxes with items to make the season a little easier.

The boxes have been filled with items such as sweets, soups, beans, toiletries, puzzles and games to keep personnel occupied when they are not on duty.

The branch, based in Lincoln, said they wanted them to know that they are proud, and “they are not forgotten at this special time of year”.

Marilyn Merry, the Relate Lincolnshire Centre Manager, said: “Relate provide counselling to RAF personnel so we aware of the difficulties faced by serving personnel both whilst they are posted abroad and when they return.

“The partner of one of our staff has just been posted abroad for his fourth tour so knows exactly what men and women need when they are out there.”
