The chapel at Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln has hosted a ceremony to bless a new set of stained glass windows.
The ceremony on January 30 was dedicated to Saint Francis and Saint Clare, who were chosen because of the great support Robert Grosseteste gave to the Franciscans.
The congregation celebrated two new windows, which depict Saint Clare and Robert Grosseteste, given in honour of Muriel Robinson OBE DL, the university’s Vice Chancellor who retired in April 2013.
The windows were crafted by Michael Stokes of MDS Stained Glass.
Muriel Robinson attended the ceremony together with the university’s Chancellor, Dame Judith Mayhew Jonas, and distinguished guests.
The service was led by the Dean of Lincoln, the Very Reverend Philip Buckler, and was presided over by the university’s Vice Chancellor, the Reverend Professor Peter Neil.
The Dean of Chapel and Chaplain, the Reverend Dr Peter Green, gave the sermon.
Rev Prof Peter Neil, Vice Chancellor of BGU, said :”The service of dedication was a wonderful opportunity for the university community and guests to come together.
“The dedication of the chapel was an important event in the life of the university and we were pleased to be able to pay tribute to our first Vice Chancellor, Professor Muriel Robinson, at the same time.”
