RAF Waddington personnel receive honours awards

Special honours: RAF Waddington personnel received special honours and awards for their service above the line of duty.

A group of service personnel from RAF Waddington have been presented with awards and honours at a special ceremony.

The honours and awards were given to 25 personnel by Station Commander, Group Captain Rich Barrow, at the Officer’s Mess.

The awards aim to recognise service of outstanding merit, rendered beyond the normal demands of duty.

Group Captain Rich Barrow said: “It is a pleasure to present these awards to such outstanding recipients.

“Only those individuals that are truly exceptional are recognised with an Honour or Award.

One of the awards was presented to Sergeant Nicki Appelbe from 51 Squadron.

Sgt Appelbe is fluent in Pashto, Arabic and French and was an asset to operations in Mali, establishing working relationships and gaining the trust of the French and Senegalese agencies.

She said: “It’s an honour to receive such an accolade. It was a great opportunity to be involved in such a high profile operation where I learnt a huge amount from all the deployed members. I look forward to using my new skills in the future.”
