Legal secretaries, sales administrators and receptionists in Lincoln are among the lowest paid in the whole of the Midlands, according to salary data by recruitment specialists Reed.
The 2014 local salary guide for the Midlands shows that while Lincoln has stayed level with its neighbouring cities in the marketing, sales, accountancy and finance sectors, the city falls below average in others.
The data compared the minimum and maximum salaries across 63 job roles in the region across four main areas:
- Office support & customer service
- Marketing & sales
- Accountancy & finance
- Technology, purchasing & HR
Half of the 12 office support and customer service roles included in the data showed Lincoln staff to be the lowest paid in comparison with Leicester, Northampton, Nottingham, Derby and Stoke.
Of the positions, receptionists in Lincoln were listed as having the lowest average salaries, with £13,000 pa minimum and £14,500 pa maximum.
The same job role on Northampton was listed at £15,000 pa minimum and £20,000 pa maximum.
Other Lincoln jobs falling to the bottom of the salary comparison was legal secretary, medical secretary, sales administrator, audio typist, HR officer and HR trainer.
Across the seven jobs listed in the technology sector, Derby, Lincoln and Stoke salaries were consistently lower than neighbouring cities.
No single job role in Lincoln was listed as being the highest paid in the Midlands.
The report, however, does not consider living costs by city.
Senior Regional Director Claire Harvey said: “Recruiting talented individuals is more important than ever as businesses gear up to capitalise on the opportunities that a more buoyant economy brings. However, with growth comes greater competition in securing the best candidates.”
