Second day of cycling: Despite heavy rainfall, cyclists competed to take the top spot of the 59th Lincoln Grand Prix.

Hundreds of people stopped around uphill Lincoln to watch cyclist ascend Michaelgate for the 59th Lincoln Grand Prix on Sunday, May 11.

This year’s winner of the 120-mile course was Yanto Barker from Team Raleigh.

In the junior version of the race, the West Common Road Race, Joseph Wiltshire snatched the lead.

The course itself took competitors through the Cathedral Quarter, along Newport and Burton Road and out through Lincoln villages, coming back into the city via the A57.

The finish line was set up on Castle Hill. The course was made trickier by heavy rainfall, which did lead to riders getting into difficulty.

After a large crash near the beginning of the Grand Prix race, two riders were sent to Lincoln County Hospital for injuries to be treated.

Final results:

  • 1st – Yanto Barker
  • 2nd – Mike Northey
  • 3rd – Marcin Bialoblocki

The next Lincoln Grand Prix will be held on June 28, 2015, as the city hosts the national championship race.
