Famed Lincoln photographer to showcase rare celebrity prints

Britain’s most decorated press photographer Mike Maloney OBE, from Lincoln, has a portfolio of well-known faces and events, and after years of rubbing shoulders with royals he is putting on his first exhibition in the city.

‘The World We Knew’ exhibition will be run by the Guildhall Studio at 5 Guildhall Street between September 27 and October 9.

Visitors will be able to view award-winning limited edition prints, available for purchase, including “the images Frank Sinatra never wanted to go to print”.

Mike is the only ‘Fleet Street’ photo-journalist to have been awarded with an OBE by Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Mike was the Chief Photographer for Mirror Group Newspapers and was voted Press Photographer of the Year three times.

He has numerous royal tours to his credit and in 2012 he was made Professor of Photography at the University of Lincoln.

Mike says some of his favourite images in the exhibition include Frank Sinatra getting drunk on stage, Kate and William`s wedding and Tommy Cooper and his ” new ears”.

Mike said: “As a Lincoln boy, born and bred, I am delighted to be showing some of my award-winning photographs to the people of Lincoln. The photographs are a limited-edition and can be purchased at the gallery.”
