The City of Lincoln Council has confirmed its approval to spend £1,000,000 to improve facilities at Yarborough Leisure Centre in Lincoln, as well as an additional £200,000.

After the council’s Executive approved a 10-year extension to its contract with centre managers Active Nation, officers agreed to spend £1 million to redevelop the premises.

On Monday, October 20 it was agreed that a further £200,000 will be spent on essential enhancements to external works such as a new swimming pool roof and dry changing room ventilation system.

The revamp works began on October 6 and is due to be completed by January 2015.

Plans for the centre include a new double floor gym in the current space of the squash courts, a complete reception and foyer refurbishment, new dry changing rooms and improvements to the wet change area.

The studio will also be turned into a state-of-the-art dedicated cycling studio, while the gym becomes a new large exercise class studio capable of more than doubling the current capacity.

In addition, there will be new sauna and steam cabins.

The gym is to remain open throughout the works and other facilities will also continue as normal.

The scheme will be funded through Prudential Borrowing. The savings from any borrowing costs will be retained for any future repair and maintenance works at the facility.
