Lincoln Christmas Reindeer Parade scrapped, for now

Reindeers cancelled: The annual Lincoln Reindeer Parade will not take place this year due to changes to the city’s events programme.

The annual Lincoln Reindeer Parade will not take place this year due to changes to the city’s events programme, Lincoln Business Improvement Group (BIG) confirmed.

The event, which usually gives people in Lincoln the opportunity to meet Scottish Cairngorms for a Christmas parade, has been ruled out for this year.

Events & Promotions Organiser Rachel Hanson said: “We looked at our budgets for this year many months ago, when we were planning our 2014 events programme.

“This year we had a big festival programme, which included a spectacular carnival that ran throughout the High Street and which involved lots of local schools.

“This does not mean that we have ruled out bringing the reindeer back to Lincoln in future years.”

In the past, the Reindeer Parade would start at Newport Arch on Bailgate, leading down to Cornhill in the city centre.

Children also had the opportunity to sit with Santa on his sleigh alongside meeting the reindeer.

There will still be a number of other festive events happening in the city, such as the Lincoln Ice Rink and the shopping prize trail.
