No action over missing Lincolnshire ambulance patient data disk

No further action: There will be no action taken over the loss of an EMAS disk contained data on almost 42,000 patients.

There will be no action taken by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) over the loss of an East Midlands Ambulance Service disk, which contained data from almost 42,000 patients.

The disk, which contained just under 42,000 electronic copies of scanned handwritten Patient Report Forms, went missing from the Nottingham headquarters in August 2014.

The service stated at the time there had been no evidence of a break in at the premises and thorough searches were conducted of the building.

An investigation was launched into the disappearance of the magneto-optical disk, which is similar to a floppy disk, as well as a report by the ICO.

After concluding the investigation the ICO said it was satisfied “remedial action” had been taken by EMAS.

The ICO also reportedly said the security breach involved data on an “obsolete disk”, which may not have been accessible.
