Weekend closure on Carholme Road for water main works

Water works disruption: Carholme Road in Lincoln will be closed for a weekend at the junction with Newland to allow for water main works.

Carholme Road in Lincoln will be closed for a weekend at the junction with Newland to allow for water main works.

Anglian Water has planned the work to take place over the weekend February 21-22.

The road will be closed from 6pm on Saturday, February 21, with work on the water mains taking place throughout Sunday and into the early hours of Monday morning.

During the work, traffic coming from the west will not be able to turn left from Carholme Road onto Newland.

Instead traffic will be diverted along Brayford Way, Rope Walk, Brayford Wharf East and then merge onto Wigford Way allowing traffic to access the town centre.

The road should be fully reopened no later than 6am on Monday, ahead of the morning rush hour.

Antony Innes from Anglian Water said: “We know this project will cause some disruption and we’re sorry for that.

“But, by working closely with the highways department to carefully plan the timings, mainly on the Sunday, we’re confident we can keep inconvenience to a minimum.

“This has been designed to improve the resilience of our network in Lincoln to burst mains and help us monitor for leaks which have affected customers’ supplies in the past.

“We hope people will understand the importance of this work and that the long-term benefits will outweigh any inconvenience.

“The diversion route will be clearly signposted before work starts, but we wanted to give people as much notice as we can so they know what is happening and why.”
