A snap poll conducted by ComRes for ITV called it a dead heat between David Cameron, Ed Miliband and Nigel Farage.

The Labour leader was named the winner in an ICM/Guardian poll, with the Prime Minister just behind.

In that poll, Miliband was judged to be someone who “understands people like me” and “would govern in the interests of the many”, more than Cameron.

However, the Prime Minister was viewed to be more decisive and better in a crisis than the Labour leader.

On a forced choice between Cameron and Miliband, respondents were split 50/50.

The first YouGov poll saw the SNP’s Nicola Sturgeon come out on top, with Farage in second place.

The polls also appeared to suggest that Nick Clegg failed to recreate his performance from 2010, and that the Green Party leader Natalie Bennett and Plaid Cymru’s Leanne Wood failed to make any significant progress.
