Two arrested in murder probe after Lincoln stabbing

Portland Street murder probe: Police launched a murder investigation and arrested two people after a man died from stabbing wounds.

Police have launched a murder investigation and arrested two people after a 39-year-old man died from stabbing wounds sustained in the Portland Street area of Lincoln.

The man admitted to Lincoln County Hospital yesterday after he was stabbed on Walnut Place has died. Police say he was a local man and his family are being informed.

Lincolnshire Police arrested a 42-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman in connection with the incident.

A post mortem will be carried out to establish the exact cause of death. A full forensic examination of the scene is underway.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Holvey of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (Major Crime) is leading the investigation. He said: “This is a tragedy for the deceased man and his family and friends.

“We are working hard to establish what happened. To that end officers will be conducting house to house enquires in the area. We need to build up a picture of the circumstances leading up to the stabbing.

“We will identify who was involved or who may have witnessed some or part of what occurred. I appeal for anyone who has any information about this incident to call the Lincolnshire Police via the 101 non-emergency number.”

Inspector Pat Coates leads the local policing team, he said: “This incident will come as a shock to the residents throughout the area.

“Whilst detectives are busy trying to bring the person or persons responsible for the murder to justice my officers will be in the area to help. They will also to speak to and reassure the residents.

“If householders and residents have any worries or concerns or indeed any information that they feel may help, they should approach the officers.

“Locals will notice that the level of patrols in the area have increased whilst the investigation is in progress.”
