Young Lincoln Powerboat star charges into championship lead

Race win: A 13-year-old from Lincoln claimed a commanding victory at the Lowestoft GP round of the RYA Powerboat GP Championship to take a lead in the overall standings.

A 13-year-old sensation from Lincoln claimed a commanding victory at the Lowestoft GP round of the RYA Powerboat GP Championship to take a lead in the overall standings.

Jonathan Brewer, from the Priory LSST Academy, led from start to finish on the Suffolk waters after claiming pole position ahead of reigning champion Thomas Mantripp.

This was despite a near crash in qualifying where he was caught out by a gust of wind as he pushed the boat to its limit and went airborne.

Victory for Jonathan at Lowestoft came after an impressive second place finish at the Lancashire GP earlier in the month.

After such a positive start to the season, Jonathan leads the GT15 junior class championship with just five more races to go.

The next round takes place in over a month’s time at Kingsbury in Warwickshire.

Following the race, team manager Colin Jelf said: “The team have all worked exceptionally hard this weekend and we’ve benefited from that hard work with some great results.

“We now turn our attentions to the Kingsbury GP in a few weeks where we’ll be looking for a repeat performance from the team.”

Jonathan added: “It was great to get my first national win. The team have worked hard to help make this happen and I cannot wait to go to the next round in Kingsbury.”
