Consultation for new Lidl on North Hykeham restaurant site

Third Lincoln Lidl: Lidl is holding consultations before putting in planning application for a new store in North Hykeham

Discount supermarket Lidl is looking to open a new store in the former Ocean Cantonese Restaurant on Newark Road in North Hykeham near Lincoln.

The supermarket chain has invited local residents to a public consultation day July 1 at The Ark on Moor Lane, between 3pm and 7pm.

A leaflet posted through residents’ doors says the proposed store would create up to 40 new jobs and will have 113 car parking spaces.

It is understood that Lidl purchased the premises of the Cantonese restaurant, as well as some neighbouring properties, in order to accommodate the planned new store.

The restaurant closed earlier this month after the owner retired.

Lidl is in the consultation stage for the Newark Road site and no planning application has been submitted at this point.

This will be the third Lidl store in the city alongside the new store on Dixon Street on the former dairy site, and one in the Carlton Centre on Outer Circle Road.

This brings the total number of discount supermarkets in the city and North Hykeham to six, including two Aldi shops and the new Netto store that will open on Tritton Road in October in the former Blockbuster unit.
