Freight train derails near Lincoln

Derailed freight train: The lines between Lincoln and Market Rasen and Grimsby are currently closed after a derailed freight train near Lincoln.

The incident happened at around 2.40pm near Station Road (A159) level crossing at Langworth.

Around eight wagons have derailed from a DB Schenker train which totalled 22 wagons. Both lines of the railway are blocked.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue attended the derailment and confirmed that there are no spillages of chemicals and no injuries.

Buses will replace trains between Lincoln Central and Grimsby Town until the end of service on Tuesday. Delays are expected.

Recovery from the incident is expected to last into the night.

DB Schenker Rail UK said in a statement: “We can confirm there has been a derailment involving one of our freight services at Langworth in Lincolnshire, which occurred at approximately 14.40 hours today, Tuesday 30 June. The tanks on the train were empty.

“We are working closely with the relevant parties to establish the cause of this derailment and rectify the situation in order to return the line to normal operations as soon as possible.”
