Thousands conquer 5th Lincoln Grand Prix Sportive

Sportive stars: The annual Lincoln Grand Prix Sportive started and finished in Lincoln on Saturday, June 27 with around 1,600 riders taking part.

Almost 2,000 riders took on the Impsport Championship Sportive courses on of Saturday, June 27, conquering distances of up to 97 miles.

The event, which is part of the National Road Race Championships in Lincoln this weekend, is famed for its unique setting, with the finish line at the base of Lincoln Cathedral.

Sportive cyclists are placed in the amateur category, but by no means is the event a simple feat. Those taking part chose from four routes between 32 and 97 miles.

Keen riders can also take part in the championship’s sister event the Le Petit Grand Prix on September 6.

The British Cycling championships come to Lincoln as the city celebrates it’s 60th year since the first Grand Prix.

The national event is expected to attract tens of thousands to the cobbled uphill streets of the city and the Lincolnshire Wolds.
