Leak causes closure of swimming pool and studios at Lincoln leisure centre

Heavy rain: The swimming pool, group exercise studio and cycling studio at Yarborough Leisure Centre have been temporarily closed.

Update 2.23pm:

The swimming pool, group exercise studio and cycling studio at Yarborough Leisure Centre have been temporarily closed.

A leak in the roof caused by the unusually heavy rain last night has meant the pool and rooms on the first floor have needed to be shut to enable the clean up to take place and the damage to be assessed.

Other facilities at the centre, which is run by Active Nation on behalf of City of Lincoln Council, remain open, including the main gym.

Roger Michie, Yarborough Leisure Centre’s Deputy Contract Manager, said: “We’re working hard to rectify the maintenance issue and apologise for any inconvenience that this has caused.

“If our supporters had planned to have a workout with us today in the affected areas we’d love them to still make a visit to the centre and use our gym instead which remains open as normal.

“Our team will be on hand to help supporters with their different activities.”

Simon Colburn, Assistant Director for Health and Environmental Services at the city council, said: “Yarborough Leisure Centre is an important and well used facility in the city, which is why there has been considerable investment made in it.

“We take the safety of all the centre users very seriously and need to ensure that the pool and studios are completely safe before they reopen.

“While these areas are currently out of action, the rest of the centre including the gym is open to the public.”
