£700k Broadgate car park repairs completed ahead of schedule

Full capacity: Repairs to Broadgate car park have been finished, with the facility now fully re-open to motorists.

Works to repair Broadgate car park in Lincoln city centre have been completed, with the facility now fully re-open to motorists.

City of Lincoln Council, which operates the car park, was legally obliged to carry out repairs under the terms of its current lease and approved the £700,000 funding for the project earlier this year.

The car park, which has 430 spaces, was expected to re-open at the start of October but the repairs have been completed ahead of schedule and delivered under budget, the council said.

Adrian Baker, Associate of Pick Everard, who were appointed to carry out the scheme along with Makers Construction Limited, praised the collaborative approach between the partners.

He said: “The close working between all parties has enabled us to solve problems as they arise, and keep pushing forward to return the car park to full public use.”

Simon Lamb, Managing Director of Makers Construction Limited, added: “We appreciate the contribution and assistance from car park users and the project team which has resulted in the repairs being completed ahead of schedule and within budget.”

Councillor Neil Murray, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Regeneration at the council, said: “To be finishing ahead of schedule is great and the fact that it’s been delivered under budget as well is a huge achievement.

“We’re really grateful to nearby businesses, residents and the car park’s users for their co-operation while these works have been carried out and hope that people will carry on using the car park over the coming months, particularly with important events such as Lincoln Christmas Market on the horizon.”

Mark Wheater, Strategic Property Manager for the council, said: “The improvement works which included concrete repairs and new deck coatings have significantly improved the appearance and economic life of the car park.

“The works were complex and the challenge of keeping the car park open during the works was achieved by the project team.”

Prices for parking at Broadgate range from £1.10 for an hour to £4.10 all day for cars and £2.10 all day for motorbikes.

Reduced rates are in place during weekends and bank holidays.
