More than 3,000 University of Lincoln students are receiving their degrees this week during grand ceremonies at Lincoln Cathedral.

The ceremonies span four days from Tuesday, September 8, celebrating the hard work of students across the university’s subject areas.

Professor Mary Stuart, Vice Chancellor at the University of Lincoln, said: “Graduation is not simply a celebration of years of hard work but also a chance to look forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead for our students.

“We are immensely proud of the strides that our graduates go onto take in such a variety of professions, and in locations all over the world.

“Graduation brings together friends, family and university staff to reflect on the many achievements of our students and look ahead to their futures.”

For many graduating as part of the class of 2015, promising careers have already begun.

Imogen Stevenson, who will collect her MEng Mechanical Engineering with Control Systems degree, has secured a place on the prestigious Siemens graduate scheme.

She will begin her role with Siemens in October 2015, having completed a work placement with the global engineering company as part of her final-year dissertation project.

Her groundbreaking work during this project, investigating liquid ignition in turbines, resulted in the award of an industry patent.

Imogen, who comes from Norwich, said: “I chose to study Engineering at Lincoln because it has impressive industry links, the Siemens scholarships are very supportive and the campus is in a lovely city.

“At University, I gained months of valuable work experience and completed two large projects with industry – one of which resulted in the patent – so I now have a really good understanding of what my future work place will be like.”

Stephanie Schafrath will also be among those graduating this month. Two weeks after handing in her final assignments on the Contemporary Lens Media programme, she was appointed Publication Officer for the charity Farm Africa, which aims to reduce poverty by enabling farmers in Africa to grow their incomes and sustainably manage their natural resources.

Ceremonies on Tuesday also featured honoured guests Angela Porter (Key figure in the Lincolnshire Co-operative Development Agency) and Professor Philippe Sands (Barrister, Professor of Law and Director of the Centre for International Courts and Tribunals).

According to the most recent Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) Survey*, Lincoln’s graduates are enjoying stronger career prospects than ever with 93% of last year’s graduates in employment or further study six months after finishing university, and 71% in graduate level roles.
