Around 20 residents, two dogs and a cat were evacuated from their properties in Lincolnshire after a car smashed into a house and caused a major gas leak.

Shortly after 2am on Tuesday, March 29, the driver of a Ford Focus failed to stop when requested by patrol officers in Skegness.

Police say the Focus was not pursued but a few minutes later the driver lost control and collided with a property in Schrimshaw Court, fracturing a gas main.

Residents and their pets were evacuated and taken to a local hospital for shelter whilst engineers inspected the damage.

One man was treated for the effects of gas inhalation but nobody else was harmed and all the residents have since returned to their homes.

The driver of the car, a 40 year-old local man, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police and driving whilst unfit through drink.
