Lincoln residents have been left perplexed and annoyed by a persistent droning noise that can be heard around the city over the past few weeks.

Venting their anger as the droning continues, residents have speculated that the low-pitched rumbling sound could be coming from agricultural machinery or RAF exercises, but nobody was able to confirm that.

Complaints regarding noise over the ‘Bomber County’ have surfaced before, with training aircraft at the root of the issue. But a new debate has been ignited by residents who are finding the humming noise too much to ignore.

One Lincoln resident said he could hear the hum from Skellingthorpe Road: “Rumour has it that it’s a Hercules plane on exercises, but it’s constant. Another rumour is that it’s the recycling place, but I’m not sure if it’s that.

“I’ve noticed it late at night this week, although not as loud as daytime. I rang RAF again and they said it could be a Hercules plane but it was’t them.”

Another resident, who asked not to be named, took a recording of the noise [included in above video]. They said on Tuesday, April 5: “The noise is constant throughout the day but repeatedly fades and then gets louder.

“It has been heard for months but today and yesterday it has been particularly loud and can be heard inside over other noises too. Friends and family I have asked can hear it too.”
