Work on a £5 million extension to one of the UK’s largest potato suppliers Branston Limited, based near Lincoln, will bring 20 new jobs to the area.

The firm says the 1,700 square foot extension to the factory is a result of high demand for products.

Branston’s new site will allow potatoes which are not suitable for the fresh market to be peeled before going to convenience food producers as part of their mash potato ranges, or as a topping for pies or casseroles.

Mark Willcox, technical director at Branston, said: “The factory’s 1,700 sq ft expansion will further establish Branston as one of the UK’s most substantial processors of potatoes.

“We’ll be adding value to potatoes that don’t make it into a pack as a class I product, which is a great way to reduce food waste – a real win for both farmers and consumers.

“We supply prepared vegetables to the UK’s top retailers and this extension will go a long way to help us meet the growing demand we’re seeing in this area.

“The investment will create more than 20 jobs; additional operational, technical, engineering and supply chain roles will all be required to ensure we continue to do a great job for customers.

“A great deal of thought has gone into the design of the new space, and the hi-tech equipment being installed, we can’t wait to get going when the facility opens in the early autumn.”
