Trackside house fire blocks East Coast mainline

Due to the line closure, some services have been delayed by up to four hours.

Initial story: All Virgin Trains East Coast lines have been temporarily suspended due to a line-side property fire between Retford and Newark North Gate.

A Virgin Trains East Coast spokesperson stated the house is to be demolished between 8.30pm and 10pm.

The fire broke out at a property on Great North Road in Sutton-On-Trent at around midday, bringing services to a halt.

National Rail have stated the fire is between Retford and Newark North Gate. No trains are able to run through either station.

Where possible, trains will be diverted between Doncaster and Newark North Gate, extending journey times by up to 120 minutes.

Buses have been requested to run between Retford and Newark North Gate.
