Man killed in crash with car on Canwick Road near Lincoln

A 41-year-old local man was killed in a crash with a car shortly after midnight on Canwick Road near Lincoln.

The pedestrian was hit by a car one mile outside Branston on the B1188 stretch of road between Mill Lodge and Branston.

The car involved was a silver Volkswagen Passat which was travelling towards Branston.

The man died at the scene, police said.

The driver of the car was badly shaken but was not taken to hospital.

The road was closed following the collision and reopened at 5.30 this morning.

The incident is being investigated by officers from the EMOpSS Serious Collision Investigation Unit and they would like to speak to anyone who travelled between Lincoln and Branston between midnight and 12.30am in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Anyone who did travel along the B1188 between those times is asked to contact the Serious Collison Witness Line on 01522 558855.

The Senior Investigating Officer, PS Ewan Gell, said: “This is so very sad and we need to speak to anyone who travelled along the road to call us. Even if you think you have not seen anything then please get in touch.”

This brings the total of people who have died on Lincolnshire’s roads this year to 28, compared with 23 at the same time last year.
